Söngvaka is a monthly singing session where we learn and sing various kinds of Icelandic traditional folk songs, from sources such as the extensive online archive at ismus.is, Bjarni Þorsteinsson's 'Íslensk þjóðlög' book and the archive of Kvæðamannafélagið Iðunn. Come and sing traditional Icelandic kvæðalög, tvísöngslög (2 part harmony) and söngdansar (dance ballads). The session is hosted in Icelandic and English. We learn songs by ear, but also have notation and texts written down for people who find them useful.
